What makes
a web page great?

Is it glitz, complexity, JAVA, multimedia or any of a hundred other tricks that most Web surfers can't even see? Maybe later. There are plenty of great Webmasters doing digital backflips on the Web; it's time for the rest of us to learn its potential to communicate.

BootUp.com is a plea to Webmasters: Can we talk? We're content providers -- writers, graphic artists, photographers, reporters, editors, videographers and the like. The Internet was built with our tax dollars, too.

And, it's a word of advice to content providers. Learn all you can about Web technology -- and build relationships to cover what you don't know. This is not rocket science, or even programming. You've already learned word processing, desktop publishing and graphics software. Why stop at the door to the 21st Century?

The World Wide Web simplifies network document creation as well as navigation. It's time to give computer professionals overdue credit for the value of their craft -- and to take responsibility for enhancing our own. Until we do, great content and great technology will meet far less frequently. BootUp.com looks for the content providers and concepts that can help the Web meet its potential.

And about that Master thing -- why didn't you call yourselves quarterbacks, editors or managers? You'd be far more approachable, and you might not have to work so hard.
